It’s not summer in Medford until the guitars are tuned, the blankets are spread, and the music pours out over the Mystic River. We’re talking, of course, about the Condon Shell Summer Concert Series, a local favorite that’s become a can't-miss signature event. Every other Thursday from late June through August, the Shell transforms into a sun-soaked stage of sensational sound.
At 4Squares Residential Group, we know a good thing when we hear it, and we’re all about amplifying what makes Medford shine. And this? This series sparkles. So grab your blanket, your lawn chairs, and your picnic basket—or swing by the Medford Farmers Market before the show to grab some goodies—and get ready to enjoy summer evenings filled with unforgettable live music. And because we've got a wealth of local talent, our usual Fab4 Local Recommendations has been expanded to a Fab5 - this summer there are five concerts scheduled in the series.

Here’s a bit more about each of the performances lighting up Medford's Condon Shell this season:
June 26: Debo Ray
Grammy-nominated vocalist Debo Ray opens the season with a powerful blend of precision and passion. Known for her jazz and world music work, she’s performed everywhere from the Kennedy Center to Carnegie Hall. She brings global acclaim and a deep commitment to collaboration and craft. Debo’s set at the Shell promises to be one of the standout moments of the summer.
July 10: The Blue Ribbons
Founded by singer-songwriter and keyboardist James Rohr, The Blue Ribbons are known for pushing the edges of genre. Described as “Ray Charles and Tom Waits on a pirate ship with Sun Ra and Captain Beefheart,” their sound defies categorization while remaining grounded in musicianship and soul. A Blue Ribbons show delivers groove, grit, and a sense of fun that’s hard to resist.
July 31: Susan Cattaneo Band
This is more than a great show—it’s a hometown celebration. Susan Cattaneo is one of Boston’s most respected songwriters, and she proudly calls Medford home. Her music weaves together rock, folk, blues, and country storytelling with sharp wit and heartfelt honesty.
Medford doesn’t only feature incredible musical talent—we nurture it. Susan is a shining example of the artistry that grows in our community. We were thrilled to sit with her for our Meet Me in Medford interview series. Get to know the artist behind the music here.
August 14: Baker Thomas Band
Fronted by Tom Bianchi—who also plays a key role in shaping Boston’s music scene as the booking agent for The Backroom at The Burren—the Baker Thomas Band brings high energy and plenty of summer spirit. This is music made for gathering, whether you're lounging on a picnic blanket or dancing up front by the stage.
August 28: Kier Byrnes and the Kettle Burners
Closing out the season is Kier Byrnes and the Kettle Burners, a high-octane band with deep local roots and a national resume. Their accordion-infused mix of Celtic, polka, folk, and country rock has earned them a New England Music Award for Americana Act of the Year and spots alongside legends like Willie Nelson and Old Crow Medicine Show. The full lineup—Jason McGorty, Monica Sager, Joe Miller, Dan DiBacco, Brian Lilienthal, and Kier Byrnes—brings unmatched energy to the stage. A fitting finale for the Shell’s summer series.
