Sometimes your next adventure lies one town over, in this case, Malden, MA, a city that's experienced significant revitalization over the past few years. So, welcome to another segment of 4Squares Residential Group's "A Day Away," where we feature fun places to spend the day across Massachusetts.
Fun Facts about Malden
The Puritans initially settled the City of Malden in 1640. Originally named "Mistic Side," the city was later named Malden in tribute to Malden, England.
Malden was one of the first towns to petition the Colonial government to secede from the British Empire.
Notable Malden natives include Massachusetts State Senator Ed Markey and lawyer/author Erle Stanley Gardner, who penned the Perry Mason detective book series that later became a famous television show.

Something to Do
The Northern Strand Community Trail entry points at Route 60 near the Malden Valley Forum Hockey Rink and behind the Dockside Restaurant.
The days may be shorter this time of year, but there’s still time to enjoy a bike ride or a stroll along the best-kept bike path secret in Middlesex County. While this 10-mile mixed-use community path in Everett on Air Force Road, a significant portion of the trail extends through Malden Center and features modern artwork along the route. Are you feeling particularly adventurous? Continue further on the gravel path to Revere and the Lynn/Saugus line.
Boda Borg, 90 Pleasant St, Malden, MA 02148
For a one-of-a-kind activity for family or friends, head to Boda Borg for an afternoon of questing! For the uninitiated, quests are group challenges where teams of 3-5 people move through real-life experiences, solving puzzles and physical challenges. As Boda Borg folks say, "Stop living vicariously through books, movies, TV, video games, and social media. Go out in real life and do it yourself!"
Someplace to Eat
All Seasons Table, 64 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA
All Seasons Table has been hailed as the most cutting-edge Pan-Asian restaurant in Greater Boston. Once you step inside, you travel twice; first, you'll feel transported to a sleek Manhattan-style dining experience, and then soon, you'll get to travel on your plate as you enjoy Thai, Vietnamese, or Szechuan delicacies.
The star of the show at All Seasons is by far their sushi. The 4Squares Team has it on excellent authority (an American ex-pat who lived in Osaka for over a decade) that the Nigiri and Maki are on par with what you'd enjoy in Japan. Our favorites include the Lobster Maki, Lady in Red Maki, and Caterpillar Maki – hey, don't knock it ‘til you try it, and you'll be glad you did. Be sure to indulge in a hand-crafted martini while you're there as well.
Exchange Street Bistro, 67 Exchange Street, Malden, MA
Hungry but aren’t sure what you want? Then head over to Exchange Street Bistro, which offers something for everyone. Enjoy a juicy Bistro Burger or savory Bolognese. If you’re craving something lighter, you can’t go wrong with their Roasted Beet Salad or Arugula and Pear Salad, paired with a Fig & Prosciutto pizza. But for true decadence, the Lobster Mac and Cheese is where it’s at!
